Change My Mind

Frankie Warren knows exactly what Nick Boyle is: arrogant, privileged, obnoxiously handsome, and absolutely not worth his time.

Too bad they’re co-presidents of Debate Club.

Nick is the smug soccer star who stole Frankie’s spotlight, wormed his way into club leadership, and somehow always manages to look heroic while making Frankie look unhinged. So when Nick’s unauthorized protest against the school board gets them both in trouble, Frankie is furious.

Then comes the punishment: mandatory volunteer hours on Washington’s marriage equality campaign.

Together.

For Frankie, the campaign is personal. For Nick, it seems like another chance to charm a room and take credit. But knocking on doors, arguing over strategy, and fighting for history has a way of revealing what people are really made of. And the more time Frankie spends with Nick, the harder it becomes to ignore the possibility that his worst enemy might be hiding something vulnerable beneath all that confidence.

Between canvassing shifts, campaign rallies, school gossip, and arguments that feel a little too much like flirting, Frankie’s hatred starts to wobble. Nick might still be infuriating, but he’s also brave, complicated, and maybe just as scared as Frankie is.

As Election Day closes in, Frankie is ready to change voters’ minds.

He never planned on Nick changing his.

About the Author

Chad Harper is an educator turned librarian who writes queer young adult books in the spare time he doesn’t have! Originally from a conservative town in Pennsylvania, he moved to the Seattle area right after high school after his boyfriend dumped him.

He has a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s degree in teaching from the University of Puget Sound. When not writing sassy queer characters arguing and falling in love, Chad can usually be found spending time with his husband, Dave, and their dog, Benji.
